Our story begins in 2009 when Senior Partner John Kelly decided it was time to leave the corporate insurance world and launch his own business. After 5 years as an Account Director at Aon managing the insurance program for some of Australia’s largest ASX Listed Companies and 5 more as Head of Financial Lines at AIG Australia, John decided to take the road less travelled and established Consult Insurance Solutions specialising in Professional Indemnity and Directors Insurance.
In 2010 Oscar Martinis also decided it was time for a change after a 20 year career in Funds Management culminating in Oscar’s appointment as Managing Director of what was Australia’s largest Hedge Fund manager. After some time off Oscar established Absolute Risk Advisers, a specialist insurance brokerage servicing Investment Managers and Wealth Managers.
After meeting at an Insurance Industry function in 2014, John and Oscar realised their complimentary skills sets would create a significant force in the area of Financial & Professional Lines Insurance and in 2015 merged their respective businesses.
As John and Oscar were working through their merger, Rick McDougall a former colleague of John’s from Aon, joined the team. After leaving Aon, Rick spent 6 years as the integral driving force behind the growth and success of a large national Insurance Broker, managing the insurance programs for some of Australia’s largest Corporate, Financial and Legal entities.
And thus McDougall Kelly and Martinis was born. MKM Partners is now one of Australia’s leading specialist insurance brokerages which has transformed the specialist knowledge gained by it Senior Partners in Over 25 years of insurance and investment management sector experience into outcomes that matter for our clients, our staff and the financial services industry.

OSCAR MARTINIS
Oscar has Over 25 years investment management experience.
Oscar’s experience in dealing with Managed Investment Schemes, Listed Investment Companies, Structured Products, Single Strategy Hedge funds and Fund of Hedge Funds provides MK&M Partners with an insight into the operational context in which our clients work that can only be gained from such depth of hands on experience.
This direct industry experience enables MK&M to obtain superior outcomes by accurately presenting our clients risks and exposures to the insurance market.
Oscar holds a Bachelor of Business (Accounting) from RMIT and is a Member of the Australian Institute of Company Directors (MAICD).
JOHN KELLY
John has 25 years insurance broking and underwriting experience handling many of the largest and most complex insurance programs for financial institutions in Australia. John’s experience as both a Broker and an Underwriter delivers a unique perspective when assessing the risk profile of our clients.
John holds a Bachelor of Commerce (Honours in Economics), Graduate Diploma of Insurance and an MBA (Melbourne Business School). He is also a Fellow of the Australian & New Zealand Institute of Insurance and Finance (ANZIIF Fellow) and former Committee Member of the General Insurance Advisory Committee for ANZIIF.
RICK MCDOUGALL
Rick has Over 25 years insurance broking experience servicing some of Australia’s leading Wealth Management, Corporate Advisory and Fund Management businesses.
Rick has significant experience placing and servicing “hard to place” risks and assisting clients on claims management processes.
Rick holds a Bachelor of Business (Banking and Finance) from Victoria University.
